Tickets can be purchased from the Marmaris marina office, or you can book an organized trip with hotel pick-up included
- Akyaka: Akyaka is a beautiful, small beach resort around half an hour away from Marmaris, and it’s much more authentic than Marmaris itself. You can take a taxi for around 400 Liras one way or catch the local dolmus, although it will drop you off on the main road and you’ll have to walk the remaining 10 minutes. The good news is that Akyaka is always a little cooler than Marmaris, thanks to the wind, which might be advantageous during the peak summer months!
- Saklikent Gorge: around an hour from Fethiye, you’ll find Saklikent Gorge, a natural gorge you can explore on foot. There are also restaurants and outdoor sports to enjoy. The best way to get to Saklikent is via an organized trip, as the local bus tends to go out of the way before arriving

- Cleopatra Island (Sedir Adasi): the boat to this stunning island is around half an hour from Marmaris, and the boat trip takes about 20 minutes, but it’s worth it! You cannot touch or take away any of the sand from the beach, as this is said to have been brought to the island by Marc Antony for Cleopatra, hence the name. There are also old ruins to explore; again, the sea is impossibly clear
- Butterfly Island: located in Fethiye, Butterfly Island is only accessible by sea, and there are many trips that head there during the summer months. The island is said to be the home of countless species of butterflies, but even aside from that, it’s a small cove that makes you feel like you’ve been shipwrecked, with soaring cliffs on all three sides. It’s extraordinary indeed
