Reports of a new Martin Scorsese project have surfaced, and it looks as though the filmmaker is making a crime caper. According to Deadline, the veteran director will add a new movie about mobsters to a body of work that already includes Goodfellas, Gangs Of New York, Casino, The Departed and The Irishman.

This time around, Hawaii is the location, and Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, stars of Jungle Cruise, and A24’s upcoming Mma drama, The Smashing Machine, reportedly brought the project to regular collaborators Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. The pair must have liked what they heard because the whole package of story, director and stars is now being shopped around Hollywood and won’t be short of an interested party or two, we’d imagine.

Celebrated Malian director Souleymane Cissé, who was the first sub-Saharan African director to win a major award at Cannes with 1987 Jury Prize winner Yeelen (Brightness), died Wednesday at the age of 84.

Active right up until his death, Cissé had recently attended a press conference to present two trophies at a pre-event for the 29th edition of Fespaco, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou.

“Papa died today in Bamako. We are all in shock. He dedicated all his life to his country, to cinema and to art,” his daughter Mariam Cissé said in a statement.

Cissé was due to preside over the jury of the biannual Fespaco festival, which opens in the capital of Burkina Faso from this Saturday.

Spike Lee has shared the first look at his latest film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” with lead actor A$AP Rocky in a prison jumpsuit. The first-look image was posted just 24 hours after A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in a semiautomatic firearm case.

A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, made his acting debut in 2015 coming-of-age film “Dope.” He went on to appear in “Zoolander 2” (2016) and in a short film with his romantic partner Rihanna. Now, the rapper is staking his claim in the indie-film game: A$AP Rocky stars in two A24 features out this year: Sundance hit “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” and Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest.”

In the film, A$AP Rocky stars as Yung Felon, the lead character in the reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low.” Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Ice Spice also star.

Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award-winner Sharon Stone is in negotiations to join the cast of the HBO series Euphoria for Season 3. Deadline has been tracking this casting for weeks with an announcement pending following the closing of her contract.

The eight-episode third season of Euphoria will feature a time jump that takes the characters out of high school. It is set to premiere in 2026, four years after the show’s Season 2 run.

As Deadline exclusively revealed yesterday, the ensemble cast of returning and new talent on Euphoria includes fan-favorites like Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo. Most recently, she worked alongside Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2, Universal’s sequel to the 2021 surprise hit that’s set to premiere in theaters on Aug. 15, 2025.
